Rev. Canon Arthur P. Powell
Priest and Rector

  • Canon. Art has served as rector of Holy Apostles (formerly St. James’ Church and St. Matthias Church) since 1990
  • Before coming to Holy Apostles he served as rector of The Church of the Holy Communion, Fair Haven, and as Vicar/Curate of St Martin in the Fields, Lumberton/St. Andrew’s, Mount Holly
  • Master of Divinity from The General Theological Seminary (1983)
  • Graduate of Rutgers University, Camden College of Arts and Sciences; degree in Sociology with an emphasis in psychological anthropology
  • Married to Lyn Powell and they have one adult son
  • Canon Art’s outside interests include, art, music, sailing and summers in Maine.
  • In March 2017, at the 233rd Diocesan Convention of the Diocese of New Jersey, Fr. Art was made an Honorary Canon of Trinity Cathedral. This title was awarded in recognition of Canon Art’s long and dedicated service to the diocese.
